This book is your guide to learning Jordanian–Palestinian Arabic as it is actually spoken in daily life — with friends, family, in cafés and restaurants, at work, and on the street.

Jordanian and Palestinian Arabic are very close and widely understood across Bilād ash-Shām or what’s known as “The Levant”. Still, as you listen to people, you’ll quickly notice that not everyone speaks exactly the same way. This is normal. The dialect includes different varieties, mainly Madani (city), Fallahi (rural), and Badawi (Bedouin), and you will hear all of them in Jordan and Palestine.

In this book, the main focus is Madani speech, because it is the most common and easiest variety to use in mixed and urban settings. At the same time, you will be introduced to features from Fallahi and Badawi, so you can recognize them, understand different speakers, and feel more confident when listening.

You will also learn how sounds naturally change depending on the speaker and the situation. For example:

• The letter ق may be pronounced as 2a, ga, or ka.
  Coffee | قهوة Qahwah => 2ahweh, gahweh, kahweh
• In Madani speech, ث is usually pronounced as ت.
  Three | ثَلاثة Thalaathah => Talaateh تَلاتة
• The hamza (ء) is often dropped at the end, so you may hear:
  Sky | سَماء Samaa2 => samaa سَما
  Evening | مَساء Masaa2 => Masaa مَسا

These variations are not mistakes, they are a natural part of how Jordanian–Palestinian Arabic works in real life. This book does not expect you to copy one accent perfectly. Instead, it helps you understand variation and communicate clearly.

Each unit includes realistic dialogues and short texts, supported by clear grammar explanations and practical vocabulary. You’ll practice through role-plays, games, and exercises designed to help you speak with confidence, not just memorize rules.

Throughout the book, you’ll find QR codes that give you access to audio and video recordings. All vocabulary lists and texts are recorded to help you hear correct pronunciation, practice speaking, and check yourself after reading.
